Our courses and classes cater for the varying needs of the community from specific technical or performance development, to general fitness classes.

MCB’s annual contemporary showcase returns this year showing off the students contemporary and choreographic skills. This year held at the Meat Market North Melbourne this season will deliver evening of cutting edge dance from some of Australia’s youngest choreographers.

All proceeds from the event go towards capital works for the Melbourne City Ballet Centre.

COPPELIA - The School of the Melbourne City Ballet

The School of the Melbourne City Ballet present the comedic ballet “Coppelia” at the Darebin Arts Centre featuring the artists from the company’s Finishing Year, Elite Artist and Melbourne Institute of Classical Arts Programs.

Coppelia tells the story of a young betrothed couple, Franz and Swanhilda, whose mischievous and fiery relationship finds them in hot water when they encounter Dr Coppelius and his creation, the doll "Coppelia”. 

Come along and support these emerging artists for a great night of classical ballet that is fun for the whole family.

2019 Auditions - Now Open


Auditions for Melbourne City Ballet's professional artist positions and training programs for 2019 have now opened. Come join us for what is set to be an exciting year in 2019 being guided by the company's Senior Staff members. 

Positions will be available for the following:

Company Artist

Emerging Artist (Apprentice/Intern Program)

Finishing Year Artist (Pre-Professional Bridging Program)

Elite Artist Program (Classical and Contemporary Streaming program) (Full Time)

MICA - Melbourne Institute of Classical Arts (High School & Ballet program)

Junior Elite Artist (Interstate) Program


Auditions will take place as follows: 

MICA (Melbourne) - 9am Saturday 25 August 2018 - Melbourne City Ballet Centre (MICA, JEAP and Full Time Only)

Brisbane - 11am Saturday 9 September 2018 - Thomas Dixon Centre, West End (All Programs)

Melbourne - 9am Saturday 13 October 2018 - Melbourne City Ballet Centre (Full Time, Finishing Year, Emerging Artist & Company Artist)

Sydney - 10am Sunday 14 October 2018 - MacDonald College, North Strathfield (All Programs)

MICA Melbourne - 9am Saturday 20 October 2018 - Melbourne City Ballet Centre, Coburg (MICA, Full Time & JEAP)

2019 Junior Extension

Auditions Open

Melbourne City Ballet's Junior Extension Program offers young dancers from across Victoria a weekly class with the company's Artistic & Performing staff designed to develop their placement and quality. 

The classes take place each Saturday afternoon and have a duration of 1.5 hours. Classes are assigned on where a particular dancer will gain the most benefit with scheduled times of 

Melbourne City Ballet also offer a male extension class where masculine delivery is focused upon, whilst some immersion with general classes will occur where technically required.
