Michael Pappalardo
Artistic Director

Michael began his classical training with Janice Heale School of Dance in Brisbane before studying with Queensland Dance School of Excellence and the New Zealand School of Dance. During his studies Michael further worked with the Royal New Zealand Ballet on a number of productions. After returning to Australia, Michael briefly worked with Queensland Ballet before turning his talents towards business ventures.

However Michael’s love of dance found him return to dance, training with Expressions Dance Company and Australian Dance Theatre. Since then Michael has performed with various companies including Melbourne Ballet Company and Leigh Warren Dancers, as well as an extensive career as an independent artist.

Michael is the founding Artistic Director for Melbourne City Ballet choreographing many of the company's main works to date, including Carmen, A Midsummer Night's DreamCoppelia and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

 
 
 

The Artists

  Brendan Bradshaw   Principal Artist   Brendan began dancing at the age of 6 in his local town of Wauchope.   Yuiko Masukawa   Principal Artist   Yuiko Masukawa began her training in her home town of Osaka, Japan.   Emma Cheeseman   Company Artist   Emma began her dance training at age five in Bendigo, Victoria training in all styles. Emma Cheeseman
Company Artist

  Alexia Cannizzaro Junior Artist   Alexia’s love of dancing began at the age of 5, when she began taking ballet lessons at Anita Coutts School of Dance, Ballarat. Alexia returned home to Melbourne City Ballet in 2017, commencing in the role of Junior Artist with the company during our national tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2017.

Alexia Cannizzaro
Junior Artist

  Yuma Yasui Company Artist   Yuma began to study ballet at the age of 5 at the Tanaka Ballet Art School in Japan. In 2011 Yuma became a student at Australian Ballet School where he completed his classical training from 2011 - 2013.  From 2014-2016 he was soloist at the Columbia Classical Ballet in USA. In 2015 he won 2nd prize at the World Ballet Competition Orland. In 2017 He won 1st prize at the NBA All Japan competition.  His repertoire includes the following roles: Romeo and Juliet “Romeo”, Swan Lake “Rothbart”, Nutcracker ”Snow Pas de deu”, Paquita “Pas de toris” and Sleeping Beauty “Prince Desire”.  Yuma has joined Melbourne City Ballet as a Company Artist in 2018.

Yuma Yasui
Company Artist

Yuma began to study ballet at the age of 5 at the Tanaka Ballet Art School in Japan. In 2011 Yuma became a student at Australian Ballet School where he completed his classical training from 2011 - 2013.

From 2014-2016 he was soloist at the Columbia Classical Ballet in USA. In 2015 he won 2nd prize at the World Ballet Competition Orland. In 2017 He won 1st prize at the NBA All Japan competition.

  Marco Palamone Company Artist   Born in Varese, Italy Marco began dancing at the age of nine after training in gymnastics. During a gymnastic competition an ex dancer of La Scala in Milan spotted Marco's potential and managed to convince his parents to start him in ballet.  Marco was also offered to train in the National Italian Gymnastics Team but declined the position for his career in ballet. His professional success is accredited to Happy Dance with Irina Pana, Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham and finally to English National Ballet School where he graduated in 2015. Marco worked as part of English National Ballet 2 touring with My First Ballet Coppelia and also worked with English National Ballet for their production of The Nutcracker. During this time Audra performed as a local extra for productions with The Australian Ballet and The Royal Ballet. Audra was also a member of the youth ballet company, Premier State Ballet. At 15, Alex moved to Melbourne to commence full time studies at the Australian Ballet School, attaining the level 4 Award for Excellence in her first year. Several years later, Alex moved back to Sydney to attend the Australian International Ballet Academy before gaining a finishing year position at the Nationale Balletacademie in Amsterdam, Holland.  During this time Alex was fortunate to work with Het Nationale (Dutch National Ballet Company) as an extra in the companies productions of swan lake and nutcracker. Several months later Alex relocated to London, UK and was successful in receiving a short term contract with English National Ballet. Alex performed in the companies production of Swan Lake in -the-round choreographed by Derek Deane at the Royal Albert Hall. Following this, Alex moved to Lisbon, Portugal where she remained for 3 years as a corps de ballet member with the Companhia Nacional de Bailado. Olivia Johnstone
Junior Artist

Olivia grew up on the Gold Coast, Queensland. She started her dance training at the age of eight at her local dance school, Danielle's Studio of Dance. In 2013 was accepted into the New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) where she spent two years studying and training. Graduating in 2015 with her Diploma in Dance.

Olivia then relocated back to Australia to join Melbourne City Ballet as a Finishing Year in 2016. She was promoted to Emerging Artist in 2017 and then to Junior Artist in 2018.

Some performance highlights include; Dancing in NZSD’s Graduation performance of George Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco, Kenneth MacMillan’s Concerto and Joseph Mazilier’s Paquita. Dancing and touring in MCB’s Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Madame Butterfly, Mid Summer Nights Dream and the Wonderful Wizard of Oz are just some of her favourite!

  Danielle Whitfort Junior Artist   Danielle began dancing at the age of 3 at Edwards Dance Studio, in her local town of Seymour. Soji Shinse
Junior Artist

In 2013, Soji traveled to the Ukraine to join the Kiev National Ballet School under Serguey Lakhtionov. During his training years, Soji was fortunate to be chosen to appear in the Kiev National Theatre's Japan tours of Sleeping Beauty in 2014 & 2015.

In 2015 Soji competed in the Grand Prix Kiev International Competition where he was awarded the Vadim Pisarev Award.

Following completion of his formal classical training, Soji joined the National Opera Romania Iasi for their 2016-2017 season. Soji then relocated to Melbourne to join Melbourne City Ballet in 2018.

  Klarissa Genussa Emerging Artist   KLARISSA GENNUSA trained at The Conlan College of Classical Ballet (Sydney) for her foundation and full time training from 2010 until graduating in 2015. Klarissa Genussa
Emerging Artist

KLARISSA GENNUSA trained at The Conlan College of Classical Ballet (Sydney) for her foundation and full time training from 2010 until graduating in 2015.

During her time with The Conlan College of Classical Ballet, Klarissa won the prestegious McDonald's Eisteddfod Classical Ballet Solo (2015).

Following graduation, Klarissa has worked independently whilst receiving many offers to travel overseas with companies such as Ajkun Ballet Theatre and Stara Zagora State Opera Ballet.

Klarissa joined Melbourne City Ballet in 2018 as one of our Emerging Artists.

  Charlotte Gleeson Emerging Artist   Charlotte began her training at Northern Dance Academy in Kerikeri, New Zealand. In 2013 she was accepted into the Classical Stream at the New Zealand School of Dance.  During her time at NZSD she was fortunate to be one of 22 dancers selected worldwide to attend the Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival in Boston, Massachusetts in 2015. In 2016 she was lucky to perform with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company for their nationwide tour of Giselle. At the end of 2016 she graduated from NZSD with a Diploma in Dance Performance.  In 2017 she was a part of the Finishing Year programme at Melbourne City Ballet. During this year her highlight was performing as Cinderella in the students end of year production. In 2018 she was accepted in Melbourne City Ballet Company as an Emerging Artist.

Charlotte Gleeson
Emerging Artist

Charlotte began her training at Northern Dance Academy in Kerikeri, New Zealand. In 2013 she was accepted into the Classical Stream at the New Zealand School of Dance.

During her time at NZSD she was fortunate to be one of 22 dancers selected worldwide to attend the Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival in Boston, Massachusetts in 2015.   Tamara Taylor Emerging Artist   Born on the Sunshine Coast, Tamara started dancing full time with En Pointe Classical Ballet Coaching in 2011, training with world class tutors. During this time Tamara successfully auditioned for and joined the Queensland Ballet Junior Extension Program and Brisbane City Youth Ballet Company. In 2013 Tamara commuted to Brisbane for 2 years to dance with QDSE under Queensland Ballet, where she was fortunate to Extra in Queensland Ballets Cinderella and American Ballet Theatres Swan Lake.  In 2015, Tamara made the move overseas to continue her training at the New Zealand School of Dance, school of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, graduating as a classical major in 2016.   Siobhan Orgles Emerging Artist   Siobhan started learning dance at the age of three at Toodyay Ballet School in the small West Australian town of Toodyay. At the age of 11 Siobhan started travelling an hour and a half three times a week to further her training at The Conservatoire in Perth joining their extension programme. From the age of 15 she began full time training at The Conservatoire before graduating and making the big move to New York City to become a Junior artist with Ajkun Ballet Theatre. When touring with the Company in New York Siobhan performed in many ballets such as, Giselle, Midsummers Night Dream, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. Siobhan was offered a scholarship to attend a contemporary program in Rome, Italy with Choreographer Ellen Sinopoli.  Upon returning to Australia Siobhan auditioned and successfully gained a place in Melbourne City Ballet’s Finishing Year Program. Before making the big move to Melbourne from Perth she performed in Perth City Ballet’s season of Don Quixote as Cupid, performing for 10 days at the Quarry Amphitheatre.  Siobhan was promoted to Emerging Artist in 2018 and is looking forward to the year ahead.
